Family summer holidays in the Zillertal
Hiking
From leisurely excursions to mountain tours or even via ferratas – the Zillertal offers well-marked, yet exciting and spectacular hiking routes for all levels of ability. But take care: the stunning mountain landscapes and impressive outdoor experiences can be addictive!
We recommend the Kreuzjoch and the Gerlosstein area on the Hainzenberg – two well-known hiking areas that are easily accessible by cable car. The hike to Talbach waterfall and the Hainzenberg circuit hike, which both start just outside our front door, are also highly recommended.
Biking
We hire out new city bikes, mountain bikes and children’s bikes to our guests for a small fee so you can explore the Zillertal Bike Arena.
With over 232 kilometres of mountain bike trails for all levels of ability, you can experience the great outdoors in an exciting, highly individual way. The leisurely Zillertal cycle path passes right by Haus Sonnenau and is ideal for family excursions. Special advantages for cyclists include free transport of bikes on the cable cars and a shuttle service with the “Biketicket Zell-Gerlos”. However, you can also catch a ride home with your bikes on the Zillertalbahn train from any of the villages.
You can hire suitable bikes from us. (Please bring your own helmets.)
Children
Zell am Ziller is a veritable paradise for families and children.
As well as our own playground and child-friendly farm, Freizeitpark Zell (leisure park) is only a few minutes away. Covering an area of over 45,000 m², it offers a huge choice of leisure options, including for young people and adults!
The new and already legendary Arena Coaster also deserves another mention here.
The “Familiennest” programme in Zell am Ziller offers children aged four years and above (without parents) a wide range of exciting activities and is free for our guests.
Lots to do in Zell
With an area of 45,000 m² dedicated to fun and games, swimming and sports, Freizeitpark Zell has everything you could wish for when it comes to leisure activities.
For horse-lovers, we recommend Edhof riding stables, which are located 12 km away in Fügen.
And don’t miss out on one of Europe’s most beautiful flying areas: dare to see things from a different perspective on a paragliding trip.
The Gerlossteinwand Alpine via ferrata is also well worth experiencing.
(Suitable for beginners.)
Zell’s leisure offering also includes a range of guided hikes, Nordic walking, herb walks and Kneipp tours.
Culture:
The nostalgic Zillertalbahn steam train experience, which takes you through the lush landscape of the Zillertal and past our apartments, is an attraction on the move.
Why not pay a visit to Tyrol’s oldest private brewery and sample the delicious “Zillertal Bier”? Other highly interesting and worthwhile attractions include a gold mine, a working dairy in Mayrhofen, our zoo and the Zillertal Regional Museum.
