Skiing in the Zillertal
Zillertal Arena
The Zillertal Arena ski area comprises the Zell, Gerlos, Königsleiten and Gerlosplatte ski areas, and offers top skiing conditions from early December through to Easter. With 166 kilometres of well-groomed pistes catering to all abilities and 49 lifts, the Zillertal Arena is one of the largest and most modern ski areas in Austria.
New investments are made each year, especially in the lift capacities and snow-making machines, ensuring even better skiing and guaranteed snow.
The easiest way to reach the Zillertal Arena is from the cable car station in Zell am Ziller. From there, you can easily head up to the Kreuzjoch (2,559 m) or over to the Isskogel at 2,264 metres’ altitude. Boasting some 30 huts, snow bars and restaurants, the whole ski area guarantees the very best in refreshments. >> Zillertal Arena
Skiing for all ages
With fabulous views of the magnificent mountains and a host of family-friendly facilities, young and old skiers are sure to find what they’re looking for. Facilities include a new children’s restaurant, which is to open in the Arena Center at the heart of the ski area. With their own colourful fairytale landscapes, the ski schools are an ideal place for young skiers to play to their hearts’ content and to boost their confidence on skis. The nearby family ski area of Gerlosstein is also particularly suitable for fun skiing experiences with the whole family.
And if that’s still not enough, there are also other ski areas in the Zillertal.
The Hintertux Glacier is the only year-round ski area in Austria. As well as offering 245 kilometres of ski runs, it boasts wide slopes with natural snow, pristine deep-snow slopes and challenging moguls – all at up to 3,250 metres above sea level.
The ski area in Mayrhofen offers pristine powder runs, as well as 159 kilometres of pistes, including challenging descents such as “Harakiri”, which has a gradient of 78%, and the Vans Penken Park for freestylers.
With 171 kilometres of slopes and 37 lifts, Hochfügen and the Hochzillertal are also just waiting to be explored.
